"If you still really want to be what you want to be, you can still be it...in the real world." - 5-year-old words of wisdom that best capture my philosophy of life
I'm a middle school teacher interested in reading, cooking, gardening, sustainability, running, writing, hiking, and crafts.
Basically, I'm looking to meet new people, for friendship.
I've lived in the Upper Valley for about 6 years. I like working out at the RVC after work, going to movies, going dancing and hanging out with friends.
back in the upper valley til summer 2010 when i hope to migrate to a warmer place and get a *gasp* real job. would love to find fun & interesting activities/people to help get thru these chilly months!
Hi - Jeremy here! I work at Dartmouth College/DHMC and am fairly new to the area. I am into hiking, biking, rowing and running and workout daily (workdays) at Dartmouth's Fitness Center.
I love outdoor activities and adventures! I grew up in Chicago, lived in Southern California and moved to the Upper Valley 3-4 years ago. I am fit, fun and ready to go!!!
Keywords: Bicycling, exploring, dancing, hiking, x-country skiing, meeting new people, contra dancing, cooking, stargazing
I'm not sure how active this site is, but I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Dartmouth, and am now in a gap year, working locally in Centerra Park, before beginning a Master's program somewhere.
If you want to hang out, go hiking, biking, or skiing, carpool to a contra dance, or just grab a pint somewhere around, shoot me an e-mail! I'd love to meet some more people around the region!
Just moved back to the Valley from Portsmouth, NH--I'm an Emergency Medical Technician (and a woodworker on the side. Looking forward to getting reaquainted with people and places in the area!
I am a grad student at Dartmouth, and spend my winters in the UV and summers in Colorado. I love hiking, insects, streams, math, and diet coke, and SCIENCE!!! And I love traveling too! This summer I made it to the end of the earth. The photo is me looking for insects in a stream next to the Greenland ice sheet... probably one of the best days of my life!
I'm 23 years old, just moved here recently and am looking to meet new people. I'm from the midwest originally, and I currently work at Dartmouth. Ask me anything, I'd love to get to know you :)
I love traveling and the outdoors. I'm new to this area, so still discovering everything there is to do here, but it seems like there's no shortage of activities.
Keywords: science geek, artist-wannabe, music junkie
i came to the upper valley for science - i rock out in a dartmouth chem lab during most my day. it's a bit more sound a career choice than "starving artist" but in another life, i would have liked to attempt that route.
i'm hoping to meet people for a cup of coffee or a pint, a walk or a hike, but mostly good conversation.
I'm not especially good at talking about myself, although most people would probably say I wear my heart on my sleeve once you get to know me. There's an element of surprise in that, too. I'm shy, but also outgoing and I enjoy both rare, quiet moments alone as well as the company of good friends. In my alone time, there is usually a camera, paintbrush or book in my hand. You'll probably hear music playing ~ Matt Nathanson, Sarah McLachlan, Evanescence, Jim Brickman, Nickelback, and other eclectic sounds... I enjoy late nights (my quiet time...) and warm, sunny days with blue skies and a gentle wind. I enjoy long walks and hiking through the woods ~ but am pretty phobic about venturing out alone (enter you... ?). I love camping, fishing, swimming and thunderstorms (can't tell me to stay away from windows during one). I enjoy movies that grip my heart or make me laugh, as well as the excitement and intrigue of the Performing Arts. I live in the same town I was born and raised in, and I am passionate about my work. The most important thing you should know about me is that my daughters are my world. Thank you for visiting!
I've lived in the Upper Valley for awhile now, and would love to meet people for various activities. I'm a dog lover and have two rescues of my own. I work at a gym as a personal trainer so physical health is important to me.
Keywords: An Italian lost in the UV...so many things to do but so few people to do them with!??
I love sports, i love books, I love good movies (this one is actually hard), and I LOVE music...I'm a very curious, outgoing person that just comes from a VERY social society (Italy) and love to meet people and share the good times! I love Tango and i'd like to live in a common house with my friends if they'd just clean a bit more and stop stealing my socks!
Ok, i think the music i like describes my multi-almost-schizophrenic-personality:
Tom Waits, Andrew Bird, Massive Attack, Beasty Boys, Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire, Josh Ritter, Beck, Mason Jannings, Paolo Conte, Vinicio Capossela, The Seinfeld bass loop, The sound of my two cats eating, Portishead, Pedro and the Lyon, The Sea Coral..ah, wait wait wait, Beatles, Neutral Milk Hotel, Lisa Hannigan, the sound of the rain on a tin roof, Kinks, Wilco, Lile Lovett, myself covering some stupid ass Britney Spears song, Ocean Colour Scene
In the process of moving from Amarillo, Texas to WRJ in early October. Decided to get a head start on getting involved in the local community. My interests are varied. Passionate about alternative medicine, gardening, general srts/crafts, bike riding, walks, hikes, sight-seeing, and learning in general.
Dartmouth alum, back here working for the College. My girlfriend is also a fellow alum, and since we're here for another year we'd like to meet other young people to hang out, play poker, video games, watch movies.

For some reason I couldn't back in the first 2 times. Here goes alittle blub about myself. I'm 34 with 2 yr old. I get along well with all sorts of people, I like chattin' it with total strangers. Variety in life. Will write more when I feel witty. Oh I also have a great sense of humor and like to laugh.
I am Programs Coordinator for the Upper Valley Land Trust. I am relatively new to the Upper Valley and am enjoying getting to know the region and its inhabitants!
I am new to the area. I am a 55 year-old male RN who just started working at Dartmouth Hospital in Lebanon. Would love to meet anyone who loves outdoor activities and having a good time. I also enjoy music, reading, quiet evenings enjoying board games and a good drink.
I graduated from Bard College in the Hudson Valley in 2008, and after living in Rochester, NY for about 9 months I moved back here to save money by living with my parents. Don't know how long I will stay but I'm looking to make the most of it, hopefully meet some new and interesting people, because let's face it, it's pretty easy to be anti-social in this area, especially if you are shy. I'm interested in having a sustainable, local lifestyle, try to stay away from 12-A, eat local, support local "flavor", ride Advance Transit, ride bikes, walk. I like exercising outdoors, nordic skiing, swimming in rivers, kayaking and canoeing, biking on the rail trail, jogging. I want to learn more about gardening and fixing bikes. Out in NY I worked in a bakery co-op where I learned to make really good bread, so I plan to do some baking of my own. I'm always interested in cooking interesting and delicious meals. Another hobby of mine is photography, and I hope to get some good equipment for that soon. I also enjoy cinema, reading, and live music. I'd love to meet all of you!

Married father of one, school administrator interested in books, art, and golf. My wife and I recently moved to the upper valley and are interested in meeting people with similar family values and education.
Native but also have been around. Know how isolated you can get in the UV if you don't get away from here for a while. I went to Buffalo for 12 years and turned into a socialist feminist dyke. Yikes! Sarah Palin you owe your opportunities to the likes of me and my friends! (Trust me, she wasn't what we had in mine when we working in the 70's.) So looking for like minded people. Really enjoy reading the uvScene(where did it go??) And love listening to DJ Trolld & Droid. Miss WXND. I do the garden in front of the TipTop as part of the Hartford Garden Friends. Stop and say hi. Work evenings and would love to find people for lunch or morning walks. Rhu

Anyways... I like to knit, go dancing, and waste time sitting around in cafes. I'm a huge dork. I <3 vegetables. If it snows properly this winter, I would love to have someone to go snowboarding with.
That is all for now.

I just moved back to the Upper Valley and am seeking a part time gig to play my electric bass. I've been playing a musical instrument since I was three or so, piano lessons when I was twelve until my knuckles were cracked with a ruler by my teacher when I was thirteen. Even played drums with a band onstage, but was fired after the show because I sucked. Picked up the bass when I was 16 and stuck with it. Some of my musical influences include the Byrds, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Temptations, the Four Tops, Ricky Skaggs, Carlos Santana, Flying Buritto Brothers, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Peter Rowan, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Pat Flynn, John Cowan, David Grisman, Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia. Through the years I played primarily country rock music, but I played bluegrass in Virginia and Maryland for awhile. Performed at the world famous Alexandria "Birchmere" with the "Last Straw Band" opening for the Buzby Brothers. I have had the opportunity to accompany great banjo players such as Mike Munford and Ned Luberecki, mandolin players Dan Curtis and Akira Otsuka, and famous guitarist David Grier. I'm a solid bass player who is tasteful, nothing fancy, play by ear and have great timing. Have plenty of equipment if required. My bluegrass rig is a David EdenEden WT400 "Traveler" Bass Amplifier and The David Eden D210XLT cabinet. I play a 1973 four string Jazz bass or a 1976 Koontz-Thurston custom made bass with headstock that appears to be a banjo headstock.
I'm 22 years old. Graduated from Castleton this past May. Originally from central NY, I moved to New Hampshire to work as a sports reporter. Don't really no anyone in the area. Just looking to get to know people.

I've been called "one of those guys who cares about everything" but secretly I don't really (just most stuff). I enjoy eating mostly oats, lentils, and rice; I eat nothing with lungs (so I'm almost a vegetarian, except that fish, eggs, and milk don't have lungs as far as I know). I appear to put up with my work because I have to, although secretly I enjoy it. However, I would rather be outside: running, hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, whatever. I will never tire of good food and drink, good company, birdsong, mountains, new snow, or old friends.
I am 23 years old (will be 24 in September) and moved to Hanover last summer. I went to college in New London and decided to in the area for my job. Most of my friends from college moved home and I am looking to get out there and meet some new people. I work in Lebanon at a weekly newspaper as a reporter and that keeps me very busy.

I take my coffee black. I revel in simplicity. History excites me. I have only one dimple. My biggest passion in life is rowing. I am a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a godmother, and a friend. My eyes are really green. I go out of my way to step on crunchy leaves. Spelling and grammatical errors are two of my pet peeves. I despise ketchup. I can't live without chapstick and I prefer it to be a yummy flavor. I believe that cottage cheese goes with almost anything. I eat oatmeal every single day. I am rarely without music playing. I have a slight obsession with chewing gum. I secretly wish vampire slayers and tomb raiders actually existed. When I hear O.A.R. I close my eyes and dance like no one is watching. I'm a thinker, dreamer, and seeker of adventure and people who don't suck. I want to climb a really big tree and not come down. You could easily call me a hopeless romantic.
Hailing from the backwoods of Vermont's Connecticut River Valley, Pariah Beat plays a punk infused blend of blues, country and old time roots music. The Beat inhabits a realm where Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, the Pogues, Tom Waits, Hank Williams, Chuck Berry, Django Reinhardt, the Clash, Elvis Presley and Robert Johnson can stand together without contradiction. We play down and dirty party music - rowdy, rootsy, and serious fun. Described as "a dirt-encrusted buzzsaw from the past, moving forward with the weight of a freight train behind them," we take that sentiment to heart, rooting the tunes we play and the stories we tell firmly in the now. We are not a gimmick, and our music is not reenactment.

Build a fire a thousand miles away
To light my long way home
I ride a comet
My trail is long to stay
Silence is a heavy stone
I fight the world and take all they can give
There are times my heart hangs low
Born to walk against the wind
Born to hear my name
No matter where I stand Im alone
Stand and fight
Live by your heart
Always one more try
Im not afraid to die
Stand and fight
Say what you feel
Born with a heart of steel
Burn the bridge behind you
Leave no retreat
Theres only one way home
Those who laugh and crowd the path
And cut each others throats
Will fall like melting snow
Theyll watch us rise with fire in our eyes
Theyll bow their heads
Their hearts will hang low
Then well laugh and they will kneel
And know this heart of steel was
Too hard to break
Too hard to hold
Stand and fight
Live by your heart
Always one more try
Im not afraid to die
Stand and fight
Say what you feel
Born with a heart of steel

I'm looking for work (I have a lot of office experience, teaching experience, and so on) so any leads would be great. I love computers and spend half my day on mine.
I like to play The Sims 2 and other online games, watch movies (especially foreign ones), and walk when the weather is nice. I read a lot and generally like to learn about things.
Anyhow, I hope to get to know some cool people here.
I'm the wife of Blair, mother of one four-year-old boy and a new baby girl.
I grew up in Northern NY (*real* NNY, not Schenectady or Utica or other places that call themselves "upstate") but I have been living in the UV since 2002. This is my home now, I can't see myself ever moving back to NY.
I used to work at the Lake Morey Resort, but for the time being I'm a stay-at-home mom, for as long as I can afford to do it.
I am also a trained birth doula but haven't attended many births due to the fact that I couldn't have a day job and be on call at the same time, and now I can't go running off at any time when I have a nursing baby at home. Hopefully I'll be available to do more births soon, because it's definitely the most rewarding and meaningful job I've ever done.
Independent who likes being outside with my dog, Kells. Usually up for any activity, spontaneous and enjoy to travel with no set plans. Playfully irreverent; inherited the dry wit from my Irish/Scottish origins.
I'm new to the Upper Valley and would love to find out what's going on in this part of the world, especially if you know anything about the following things: dancing (salsa and swing), hiking/ biking, spanish, french, or arabic (i need some language practice partners!).
Hi, I am Lois of White River Yarns. I realized my dream of starting my own yarn shop just over a year ago. I love all forms of needlework and spinning but mainly knit for the shop now. I learn every day from my customers which is wonderful. I have 3 cats that love to help me knit.

I am taking a year off from university ("voluntary rustication"). Don't know many people in the Upper Valley. Might complete a better profile later.
Hey, I'm a local free-lance writer always looking for a story -- I love to write them, read them, tell them you name it. I love pets, warm weather (yeah, I know, what am I doing here?) but the snow can be beautiful, too as long as I don't have to drive in it. I have two Chinese pugs -- Mira and Vader (after Darth, of course) and think the Upper Valley is a unique place to live and work.
(So many newcomers seem to think this is eHarmony.com or something. It's quite funny. Anyhoo...)
Hellooooo UVers (UV-ians? UV-ites?),
I'm an illustrator and writer, who's lived in the UV for 25+ years thus far (not all in a row). I currently reside in Fairlee with my wife and son, and brand new daughter. Anyway, I thought I'd do a quick rundown of who I am.
I'm a graduate of the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, NJ. Since my time at the school I’ve worked as the lead concept illustrator for a national-scale event marketing company, storyboard and/or concept artist for a few independent films, cover artist for a few magazines, interior artist on a few indie comics, illustrator on children's books, artist on a few trading cards, and a freelance work-for-hire artist for many businesses and private individuals.
I’ve also begun a writing career, placing as a semifinalist (top 100 out of a field of 4900) in the 2006 Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships In Screenwriting, a screenwriting competition sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars), and a quarterfinalist (top 250 out of 5000) in the 2007 competition. In addition to unproduced screenplays and a few treatments currently in discussion, I've written short stories and comic books.
Added to the pile, my own comic book, a self-published indie book due out in 2009, and now, I have an upcoming gig on a comic book from IDW Publishing.
I'm here because I joined all the other social sites to keep in touch with friends -- might as well join a local one.
More about me and my portfolio can be found at oneGemini.com.

Can be drawn out of hermitage by opportunities to meet new and exciting UVers. Amicable to moderate intake of EtOH in social situations. Relocated from upstate NY to Lebanon in Oct 07. Tends to avoid pronouns.
I also post irregularly to three blogs: The Apocalypse Blog, about you know what; Shiny Things, about gadgets and attention-catching stuff (or saving some $ on such stuff); and the The Blue Forest Blog, for software development-related stuff.
OK, I admit I can be hard to pin down. At various points in my life, people have asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up/ settle down?” When I was six, the answer was, “A paleontologist,” at 12 it was, “a druid,” at 18 it was, “A writer,” at twenty-four it was, “A limnologist,” and at thirty-two, it was, “Alive.” At this point in my life, I’ve finally realized that the answer is always changing. I think I had the right of it when, as a teenager, I carelessly scrawled in a school notebook, “We are constantly becoming what we are; the ‘true self’ of one moment is lost and falsified in the next. Life’s one constant, its single undying universal, is Metamorphosis.” So I content myself with becoming what I am, and leave you to tag me as you will. If it is occupation which defines a person for you, I work part-time as a librarian in the wonderful town of Woodstock, VT. (How many towns can claim to have a vampire's heart buried on the town green?!) If you define a person by their religion, I’ve at various times considered myself a Congregationalist, Unitarian, or Earth Worshipper, and soon I hope to start the OBOD’s course of study. (OBOD is the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids; and before you flame me for practicing satanism, please take some time to research OBOD, which has nothing in common with “The Wicker Man,” except perhaps a soundtrack full of catchy tunes, LOL!) As for the rest, I spend my off-time writing, playing with various forms of digital art, reading (favorites: fantasy, sci-fi, historical mysteries, anything odd), watching way too many movies, and maintaining a sustainable living website. I was blessed with a mother who taught me to dance "barefoot and bare-souled" in field, forest, and shore, and a father who took me to see dinosaur skeletons and Navy ships; and when I was in a bad humor, my parents put me in the bow of our lobster skiff to be rocked to sleep. My college degrees are in Geology-Biology and English Literature, for which I studied subjects as diverse as planetary geology, boreal flora, and magic in the Middle Ages. I’ve worked as a National Park Ranger, webmaster, publication designer, editor, environmental educator, zooplankton researcher, and terrestrial mollusk biotechnician (aka “snail counter”), and lived in nearly as many places: coastal Maine, Rhode Island, the Florida Everglades, Michigan, Northern California… I love to dance, listen to live music, hike and kayak in beautiful places, travel (when I have the time and &$), and laugh at funny stuff; I believe there's magic in the world all around us and am looking for others who feel the same!
